What if it’s all of the above?
I’ve been spending time lately thinking about decisions—and all the ways we go about making them.
I’ve been thinking about our emotions and how we can sometimes, somehow feel the stabbing, dull, buoyant, and dragging weight of them at the same time.
I’ve been thinking about how luck and skill factor in.
I’ve been thinking about our biases and how they influence the weight we attach our pros and cons.
I’ve been thinking about how much we all can suffer when stuck in indecision.
You guessed it. I’m reading a book about a poker player.
Anyhoo…
Decisions and decision-making are fascinating. Aren’t they?
And most of the time we prefer to be spectators in the stands. On a typical Tuesday, it feels safer than being on the floor of the arena wrestling a tough choice while your future happiness hanging in the balance.
But we sure enjoy watching while other people duke it out with their options.
It’s a blood sport.
Where am I going with this? Good question. (And just a friendly reminder that I’ll be the one asking questions around here!)
So, with all this thought swirling around decisions, I’ve been wondering if we set ourselves up. We we make something a tough choice when it isn’t necessary.
Instead of choosing between options A and B…
What if the answer was “all of the above”?
What if you focused on making more room and stretching what you think is possible? We if you sequenced and scheduled versus shutting one down?
What would you need to do, have in place, or be to make that happen?
Let’s get specific.
What’s one decision you’re wrestling with now?
Could you have both/and? Try that on for a moment to see what it feels like.
What would need to happen for you to eliminate the decision and go for it all?
